Bollywood buzz : Trailer of Movie "MY NAME IS KHAN"

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P Wednesday, February 17, 2010 0 comments

---------------------------------------

Producer: Gauri Khan, Hiroo Johar
Director: Karan Johar
Music: Shri, Vishal Bhardwaj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Amit Trivedi
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Soniya Jehan, Jimmy Shergill, Zarina Wahab, Parvin Dabbas, Arif Zakaria, Navneet Nishan, Sheetal Menon, Tanay Chheda, Arjun Mathur

Movie Review :
MY NAME IS KHAN makes two strong statements. The first: B.C. and A.D. are designations used to label years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. There's a third designation now - 9/11.

Viewed on the basis of the evaluation of Asperger Syndrome,Karan Johar has hit the nail on the head. He has handled Rizvan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) with maturity. To top it, he has used the intelligence of Rizvan to home in on a very touchy topic and has succeeded. Islam is not about Jihad, it is about love and Rizvan in his own locked-in world unlocks the hate within from those around him. Many with Asperger Syndrome also get violent, but Rizvan freaks when he sees the colour yellow and cannot stand loud noise.

Shah Rukh Khan has done a complete study of this syndrome and has delivered a terrific performance from frame one. Kajol, I dare say, is the Queen of Bollywood. All this talk of this heroine being the No.1 or No 2 is just mumbo jumbo when you see this talent explode on screen. Just natural. Pure bliss. We need to see more of you on screen, Kajol.

Karan Johar is known for his tearjerkers and he sticks to his format this time, too. But he also addresses an important issue, one that is tearing the world apart.

His handling of scenes is very mature and real. The interaction between young Rizvan with his mother (Zarina Wahab) and his younger brother Zakir is poignant. Zarina's obsessive focus on Rizwan drives Zakir to the wall. The crack is easy to see; his hatred for his brother easy to accept. Rizvan, in one touching moment tells his brother that at least he is able to express his sadness through tears... as for him, it's a frustrating process all bottled within.

Wanting to live his mother's dreams to lead a normal life, Rizvan leaves for America to live with his brother and wife. There, he assists his brother in selling his beauty products and meets Mandira (Kajol), already married with a six-year-old son. Their romance, which leads to marriage, is very well captured. She is a Hindu. He a Muslim. She adopts his surname and then 9/11 happens which radically changes the way the world sees Muslims, especially Americans. Tragedy strikes this happy family and Rizvan is on a journey travelling across the US to meet the president to tell him, 'My name is Khan, and I'm not a terrorist.' It is this obsessive or repetitive routine, which is the central theme of the film. He does meet the President and manages to change the views of many along the way.

Karan and SRK have done what they had to for the viewers and peace at large; but in the real world, can love actually be given a chance? A beautiful movie with a beautiful message not to forget powerful performances from the jodi that stormed the screens13 years ago with DDLJ.

Jimmy Sheirgill is once again proving to be a powerhouse performer. Soniya Jehan and Tannay Cheddha as the young Rizvan are fabulous. Zarina Wahab captivates with her emotions for both her sons. Yuvaan Makaar as Kajol's son is a confident actor.

Go watch it. Karan has crafted a beautiful film, while SRK has authored a marketing strategy that will be hard for even Aamir Khan to beat!

Rating - 3.5/5

Tea Leaf

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P 0 comments

Properties: The leaves of a tea plant taste bitter, sharp, dilutes the density of semen, destroys excessive humour of phelgm in the body, increases the wind- humor in the body and gives nourishment to the stomach. The leaves of a tea plant mixed with milk destroy phelgm, are good stimulator, an aphrodisiac drive away cold and are beneficial in fever, headache and coryza.

Uses:
1.Tea is used very commonly in our daily lives right from giving a treat to our guest's tom its daily use in our diet. There was a news article in a newspaper in 1998 about a woman who had been surviving only on tea since five years.Though tea is used very commonly yet people know very little about the real method of having it. According to a popular saying tea has two merits and three demerits. The merits are that it clears phelegm and wind. Its demerits are that tea dilutes blood and semen and also causes weakness. But still if it is taken methodically, its evil effects are minimized. Tea leaf has caffeine in it and when it is heated by giving the temperature of 100 degree celsius it turns into nicotene which causes gastric ulcer. Therefore the best method of preparing tea is considered to be keeping tealeaves in a filter pan, and pouring hot water over it and mixing milk and sugar in that gathered water. Tea prepared in this way is least harmful.
2. Boiled water when poured through tealeaves, kept in a filter pan and milk and sugar added to it and also 1/4th cup of lemon juice added to it, cures cold, cough and influenza.
3.Tea is considered to be very useful for people over 40 years of age but people having a weak liver have ill effects on their health if they have excessive tea. Tea, because of having "Hot-semen" properties, dilutes the density of the semen, as a result of which, numerous other diseases might arise. Excessive use of tea causes excessive urination because it affects the anti dioratic harmones in the body. Excessive damage of this harmone could be fatal. Excessive use of tea also might cause diabetes.

I once met a person who said her family consists of four members. Next she said she's an only child. Doing the math was easy, so I couldn't help but ask about the two-member discrepancy. "Oh! The cats of course!" was the answer that I got, but did not expect.Like this person, pet owners have for a long time confessed to feeling that their pets are part of their families. While planning their meals, their outings and their travel, some form of arrangement must include these non-human family members. While understanding the responsibilities of keeping the pet healthy, very few, however, believe that they can get sick from their own pets. Trips to the vet are in fact a tool not only to keep the animal healthy, but also to keep the owner safe from zoonotic diseases.
"Zoonotic diseases are the diseases that are transmitted between man and animal. These diseases are transmitted both ways," explained Dr. Rabei Saleh, Professor of Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinarian Medicine in Suez Canal University .
This disease does not have to be physical. Dr. Saleh explained that even being frightened of animals could be considered a zoonotic disease. However, zoonotic diseases are commonly defined as contagious diseases transmitted by microscopic living organisms.

With the world now facing a potential pandemic as bird flu spreads, pet owners are becoming more aware of the latent danger that lurks behind their beloved pets. These dangers depend on the kind of pet as well as the kind of health-care it receives. Dr. Saleh emphasized the importance of frequent trips to the vet among other needed precautionary measures.

Cats and Dogs
Rabies is the disease most commonly transmitted from cats and dogs to humans. Dr. Saleh noted that pets should be vaccinated annually against the disease from the age of four years. Animals that are kept at home are safe from the disease. However, the problem can arise when they are taken outside, like when you take your dog out for a walk. "If the animal is bitten by another infected animal it can contract the disease," he explained.

When dealing with rabies, it is important to note two things, Dr. Saleh said. The first is that the disease is only transferable through biting. The second is that a quick response is vital should this occur."If you have a dog and notice any kind of behavioral changes such as mad behavior or lack of recognition of the owner, you need to immediately send the dog to a veterinarian hospital. If for any reason medical attention for the animal can't be sought, then it must be put to sleep immediately or it becomes a health hazard," he said.Dr. Saleh explained that there are two kinds of rabies; furious and dumb. In furious rabies, the symptoms are evident. Dumb rabies is more dangerous because the infected animal does not show any symptoms but still carries the disease. "In both cases there needs to be a history of being bitten by another animal," he said.So what should one do when bitten by an animal? This depends on the degree of laceration (tear) in the bite as well as its location. The disease enters through the nerve fibers that feed the area of the wound. Hence, the closer the bite is to the brain, the more dangerous.

As soon as the bite occurs, the wound needs to be flushed out with water. "When doing that, the patient is in fact doing two things: mechanically removing the virus or diluting it. Also, the wound should not be covered or stitched because the virus is more potent when isolated from air," explained Dr. Saleh. The second step to take after being bitten is to receive rabies shots. The first shot against rabies should be taken immediately on the same day of the bite. The following shots are taken three days later, then after one and two weeks. The final shot is taken 28 days after the bite. The animal that bit the person should be located and placed under observation. If the animal is rabid then it will die within two weeks. At this point the person must take all five shots. If the animal lives, then the two remaining shots are not necessary.

A parasitic disease more commonly related to cats is toxoplasmosis. The disease, explained Dr. Saleh, is caused by a microscopic, crescent-shaped parasite which is found in the blood. The parasite might go through other intermediary hosts during its life cycle, but its final host and site of reproduction is the cat. Eventually, the parasite is transferred through the cat's feces and so any contact with the litter box of an infected cat is dangerous.

The most dangerous effect of toxoplasmosis is on pregnant women. According to Saleh, it can result in miscarriages. It can also result in encephalitis (infection of the brain) in the fetus, which could lead to blindness in the newborn baby. Other congenital diseases that might arise as a result of infection with this disease include hydrocephalus (a head filled with water) and microcephalus (small head), depending on the stage of pregnancy at the time of infection. "This is why pregnant women should never change the litter box. If the woman must do so, the scooping method should be employed to avoid breathing in its vapor," explained Dr. Saleh.

Intermediary hosts of the parasite include sheep, rodents, cattle and birds. Since the disease can be acquired by eating uncooked processed meat, cats should not be allowed to catch mice or hunt for their food and should always be fed cooked food. The disease, while having no symptoms in animals or cats, can be diagnosed by a vet. After three to four months, the infection goes away on its own. There is no vaccine for cats or humans against the parasite.Dogs can transfer roundworms to their owners. In some extreme cases these worms can cause damage to the liver, eyes or brain. Dogs need to be taken on a regular annual visit to their doctors for de-worming and their stool should be checked every six months, said Dr. Saleh.

A parasitic dermatological disease that could be passed on to humans from their dogs is mange (or scabies in humans). The parasites make tunnels under the skin. "Symptoms for dogs include itching, hair loss, wrinkling skin and a terrible smell. As soon as a dog contracts the disease, it needs to be treated in a pet hospital and to be isolated from people. If the disease becomes difficult to treat, the vet may need to put the dog to sleep in order to avoid contaminating humans and other dogs," he said.If the dog or the owner show symptoms of itching, medical attention needs to be sought immediately. An important note, Dr. Saleh said, is that dogs normally shed hair twice a year and this should not be confused with mange. However, if circular or irregular patches of hair loss are discovered, a visit to the vet is in order.

Birds
Psittacosis, or the parrot disease, is transferred by birds that live in the wild. Sick birds show signs of sleepiness, shivering, weight loss, breathing difficulties and diarrhea. Human symptoms include fever, headaches and pneumonia. The disease is contracted through the handling of infected animals. In addition, the waste or dust from the cages of infected birds could cause eye-irritation so they should be handled with care.

Fish
Fish form the least hazard in terms of zoonotic diseases. The most important precaution that needs to be taken is when you feed them live worms since these come from waste channels and carry along with them any presiding diseases in those channels, Dr. Saleh explained."The water in which [fish are] kept also needs to be clean and the filters disinfected regularly otherwise the fish owner may get gastro-intestinal disorders such as diarrhea or vomiting. Also, it is important to wash the hands after any contact with aquarium water. Water should be changed frequently and the filters should be disinfected regularly," he said.

In Need of Attention
Overall, Dr. Saleh said that it's important to note that all pets are generally safe if the right precautions are taken. "The most important thing is to look at the place where this pet will stay, the capabilities of the owner and the general health status of those in the house."Pets are not toys, he stressed. They should be taken care of, even mentally, and they need to be taken to the vet regularly. "Small animals don't need much exercise, but bigger animals do. They need to walk half an hour in the morning and another in the evening. It could be the case that you can only take care of some fish in the water. Dogs, however, are the most demanding."Additionally, Dr. Saleh advised that it is best to avoid all kinds of wild pets such as turtles and wild birds like parrots. For all animals though, feces are mostly the carriers of diseases and litter boxes must be handled with care. "It's important to wash the hands well after handling the pet and not to kiss it on the mouth or allow it to lick us," he said. When feeding the animal, it's important to feed them either pet food or leftovers which the owner himself could eat; not spoilt food, said Dr. Saleh.Pet owners should always check with a doctor if they or their animals develop any kind of symptoms such as the flu, rash, skin irritation or itching. "It's important at this point to tell your doctor that you have a pet," he said. Finally, Dr. Saleh stressed that despite the potential problems, keeping pets is beneficial for children because it teaches responsibility and discipline that remain with the child till the end of life.

The autism question

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P 0 comments

Recent news in the medical world is that The Lancet retracted their 1998 article linking the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine to autism. Repeated studies have shown no such connection.

Because if this, there have been several news stories about autism. The Wall Street Journal had this article on rates being peculiarly high in specific areas of California:
“An area including West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and some less posh neighborhoods that accounted for 3% of the state's new cases of autism every year from 1993 to 2001, even though it had only 1% of the population."
Why are cases of autism rising, especially in industrialized countries and in what seems to be in higher socioeconomic classes? The prevalence of autism is now reported to be ~1/150 American children (maybe even higher). Scientists still don’t know what causes autism other than some combination of genetics and environment.

What environmental factors might be present in these neighborhoods with high autism rates? Is it the simple reason that they have better medical care and thus more doctors giving the diagnosis? Or is there something in the environment that could be causing this?

There have been questions on whether prenatal ultrasounds could play any role, so I've been searching for studies... and it's frustrating me that I can't come up with a good answer.

Ultrasound examinations are often given multiple times during pregnancy and provide valuable information. With that in mind, this letter and this review article (full text here), make convincing arguments for why this is an area in need of further study.
  • Studies on people with autism show irregularities in several regions of the brain, suggesting that autism could be a result of disrupted normal brain development in fetal life.
  • The use of prenatal ultrasounds has grown along with the rise in autism cases.
  • Ultrasonography is used to evaluate fetal maturity, to determine delivery date, and to assess fetal growth, multiple births, and high-risk pregnancies. Pregnant women, with access to prenatal care, often have multiple ultrasound exams during pregnancy.
  • Ultrasound is used in physical therapy to deliver deep heat to tissues.
  • Liquid (including amniotic fluid) absorbs more heat energy than solid tissue.
  • The fetal brain is sensitive to many things (drugs and alcohol, for example).
  • In 2004, the FDA published this warning against ultrasound “keepsake” images, saying:
“Ultrasound is a form of energy, and even at low levels, laboratory studies have shown it can produce physical effect in tissue, such as jarring vibrations and a rise in temperature.”
While maintaining my skepticism, these points do make me wonder... could ultrasound-generated heat put a fetus at risk?

Until this paper came out this past month, there have been no studies looking at this question. Comparing 362 children having an autism spectrum disorder to 393 controls, they did not find an association between risk of an autism and ultrasound exposure.

In order to avoid an ungrounded public fear of ultrasound (similar to the >10 year and ultimately false vaccine hypothesis which ended up putting people's health at risk) we need more studies to answer this question. If we could identify large sources of data of incidence of autism and use of ultrasound during their mothers’ pregnancy, it would seem to be a relatively straightforward analysis.
Iyengar has illuminated much of the yoga practice and philosophy for me. The more I learn, the more I am drawn to him.

A teacher, scientist, poet. His body is his laboratory. On his 80th birthday he did 108 dropbacks in a row. He holds kapotasana for 15 minutes.
Kapotasana... for 15 minutes.

If you have ~8 minutes, I highly recommend watching this video below. (So grateful to Grimmly’s blog for sharing this!)

Why practice:
“Freedom. From each and every part of our body. Until freedom is gained in the body, freedom of the mind is a farfetched idea.”
The 8 limbs can all be found in the practice of asana and pranayama:
“These two steps of Patanjali are the ladder for you to reach the rightness in your wisdom.”
The practice of asana:
“Our practice of asana is not for the sake of the body -- that is only a support. If that is not there you cannot walk. Can you walk on water? So, asanas are the foundation… they make us the light of the soul.”
Purpose of practice:
“No doubt I have said, “My asanas are my prayers.” But now I say “practice is my mantra.” The purpose will come as one goes on practicing. So practice practice practice.”
I also really liked this essay that Grimmly posted, written by one of Iyengar’s students, Patricia Walden. I love her description Iyengar:
“With the mind of a scientist and the soul of a poet, he has spent thousands of hours using his body as a laboratory, experimenting, exploring, observing, and creating.”
And a few more gems from Iyengar…
“When I was young, I played. Now, I stay.”
"Make the mind feel the stretch. Awaken the mind of the little toe."
“If you keep your armpits open, you won’t get depressed.”
“When confronted with difficulty, take an action, no matter how small."

Prescribing fasting

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P 0 comments
In our culture of consumption, we rarely hear about the benefits of fasting. Many of us have probably never gone a day without eating (sick days don’t count).

Not surprisingly, fasting is not a concept touched upon in the medical school curriculum. In fact, it seems that the reverse is modeled. Unless a patient is NPO (nil per os = nothing by mouth) in preparation for surgery (or for some other medical condition), hospitalized patients are fed abundantly with typical hospital food (not to mention juice and gram crackers for snacks).
The study tested “alternate day calorie restriction (ADCR)” in overweight asthma patients. They enrolled 10 overweight asthma patients and assigned them to 8 weeks of this diet intervention, looking at effects of the diet on asthma symptoms, lung function, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

The diet: Every other day, study subjects ate whatever they normally ate. On intervening days, they ate <20% intake =" a">
  • 9 of the 10 subjects adhered to the diet and lost an average of 8% of their initial weight over the 8 weeks.
  • Asthma-related symptoms, quality of life measures, and pulmonary function tests improved significantly.
  • On days of calorie restriction, energy metabolism shifted towards fatty acid utilization (marked by increased levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate and decreased levels of leptin) - this means subjects were adhering to the diet.
  • Serum cholesterol and triglycerides decreased.
  • Markers of oxidative stress decreased, and uric acid levels (an antioxidant) increased.
  • Markers of inflammation decreased.
  • While this study was small and over a short time period, it introduces an important question (and is easy enough to reproduce on a larger scale).

When patients struggle with new and foreign diet changes, I wonder if a first step might simply be prescribing regular days of fasting.

Regardless of any potential health benefits, here is another good reason to fast:
“For now, it seems that some fasting is the best way to remind myself of the millions who are hungry and to purify my heart and mind for a decision that does not exclude them.”

    Asana

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P 0 comments
It is an amazing feeling to be able to practice with no pain. I have a new appreciation for my body and I will be much more careful with it from now on!

I love what Iyengar writes about asanas, the 3rd limb of Ashtanga:
“Asanas have been evolved over the centuries so as to exercise every muscle, nerve and gland in the body... their real importance lies in the way they train and discipline the mind…
By performing asanas, the sadhaka first gains health, which is not mere existence. It is not a commodity which can be purchased with money. It is an asset to be gained by sheer hard work. It is a state of complete equilibrium of body, mind and spirit. Forgetfulness of physical and mental consciousness is health. The yogi frees himself from physical disabilities and mental distractions by practicing asanas…
The yogi never neglects or mortifies the body or the mind, but cherishes both. To him the body is not an impediment to his spiritual liberation nor is it the cause of its fall, but is an instrument of attainment. He seeks a body strong as a thunderbolt, health and free from suffering so as to dedicate it in the service of the Lord for which it is intended…
Just as an unbaked earthen pot dissolves in water the body soon decays. So bake it hard in the fire of yogic discipline in order to strengthen and purify it.”

    HOW TO REDUCE CHILDHOOD OBESITY

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P Thursday, February 4, 2010 1 comments

    What is Childhood Obesity?

Childhood obesity is a modern epidemic with the number of obese children rising at an alarming rate. Childhood obesity is a medical condition in which the child is excessively overweight, so much so that it negatively affects the child’s wellbeing and development. This excessive weight is determined by calculating the child’s body mass index. When a child’s weight is much above the accepted weight limit for his or her age and height, the child is considered to be obese.

What are the Causes of Childhood Obesity?

Prevalent child obesity is a byproduct of our modern lifestyles. The two most telling reasons for this rise in obesity are poor eating habits and a lack of physical activity.

Most children do not practice healthy eating habits. Many children skip breakfast, the most important meal of the day, and eat out at least once during the day. Furthermore the day is punctuated with several unhealthy snacks like chips and aerated soft drinks. This results in an imbalanced diet, affecting the child adversely.

Bad food habits coupled with little or no physical activity is a fatal combination. Today children do not engage in adequate physical activity; the play grounds have been replaced by virtual gaming. Add television and the internet to this list and the grounds for activity are almost non-existent. These kids eat, but don’t burn off the calorie. As a result the excess energy is stored away as fat, which over time leads to obesity.

    Childhood Obesity Effects

The most dangerous aspect of childhood obesity is that it leaves the child vulnerable to illnesses that once only the aged suffered from. This includes conditions like type 2 diabetes and several heart conditions. In addition obese children are also susceptible to sleep apnea, depression, low self esteem, rage, and anxiety disorders.

Childhood obesity introduces a train of unhealthy and disruptive designs to the child’s life. If these are ignored, they tend to become a part of the growing personality, creating a dysfunctional adult. This includes social ineptitude and awkwardness, anxiety and depression.

    Can Yoga help Childhood Obesity?

For children battling obesity, Yoga can prove very beneficial. This holistic tradition has been practiced around the world for thousands of years with promising results. The beauty of Yoga is that it treats both the body and the mind; your physical progress is matched by a strong mental make-up enabling you to be more successful.

Yoga involves a series of gentle postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques. Together these can treat obesity, correct imbalances in the body and create a healthy resolve to fight off the condition. Unlike other methods yoga doesn’t have any unpleasant side effects, neither is it strenuous. Most child obesity exercises leave the child frustrated. Child Yoga leaves the child refreshed and positive.

Yoga exercises involve a lot of stretching and bending, pushing all the muscles in the body into action. In addition kids also learn to breathe properly, utilizing complete lung capacity, improve posture and build self confidence. The meditative aspects of yoga helps children cope with stress and anxiety. It also boosts will power and concentration. It enables the child to control binge eating in the face of anxiety or boredom.

    How to control menopause

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P 1 comments
Most women in the West dread the approach of menopause, and think of it as something that will end a happy life as they know it. Many women even take hormonal supplements to delay the onset of menopause. But in the East, menopause is thought of as a change that should be embraced, as it brings with it wisdom and insight. If you think about it, it’s a phase of life that cannot be avoided, and there are no real ‘cures for menopause’. And yet, women often enter it feeling afraid and unhappy.

Yoga for menopause can have positive effects on you, and can help you understand your body and mind better. Yoga asanas or poses, along with breathing exercises and meditation help to balance the endocrine system, along with strengthening the body and organs. This helps women to weather the hormonal changes better. Yoga aims to unify the mind, body and breath. As one becomes adept in the practice of yoga and meditation, she is able to accept herself and her body better, and this makes the transition easier.

Women who regularly practice yoga find that they are able to enjoy menopause, and experience the freedom, liberation and energy that it brings!
What are the symptoms of menopause that can be relieved?
Yogic asanas can help to relieve hot flashes, night sweats and other symptoms of menopause. Inverted postures such as the headstand, shoulder stand and bending poses like the downward dog have been accepted as providing calming effects. The regular practice of yoga, when combined with other exercises like walking, cycling or weight training can ease the symptoms of menopause, and make it easier on you. While the symptoms may not go away completely, their incidence can be reduced, and the intensity of night sweats and hot flashes will decrease.

Depression in menopause is also an important concern to women. The practice of yoga will help you to become more peaceful and accepting. Yoga also helps you to get in touch with your body, and know what is going on in an experiential way. When you meditate, you become aware of the changes in your body, and you will also realise that change is inevitable. This itself will help to keep away depression during menopause.
    Yoga Practice during menopause
Of course, if you start practicing yoga long before menopause, you will find the transition much easier. But even if you start during or after menopause, you will still feel the benefits of yoga. It is suggested that you join a yoga class, or study under a reputed teacher. You can choose between any of the branches of yoga, but a strong, grounded practice, like that of Hatha Yoga, will be most useful.
As a yoga student, no doubt, you will learn a variety of poses and techniques. During menopause, some of the techniques that will help include:
    Tadasana or mountain pose
    Virbhadrasana or warrior pose
    Trikonasana or triangle pose
    Padmasana or lotus pose
    Leg raises
    Kapalbhati cleansing techniques
    Bhujangasana or cobra pose
Pavanmuktasana or pose to release air.
    Anuloma viloma breathing techniques
    Meditation

Though we boast of technological advancements and great feats in the field of medical sciences and surgery, cardiovascular problems are mounting and continue to haunt us. Our increasingly stressful and inactive lifestyles have led to heart diseases becoming the number one health issue plaguing the world. A psychosomatic disease, heart problems almost always start with the lifestyle and state of mind.

Though we celebrate our modern lives in many ways, we do not realize the threat it poses to our survival. Healthy living, of course, is a top priority for all of us and therefore it is best to resort to yoga and correct the damage done to the cardio vascular system of our body before it becomes irreparable. The benefits of cardiovascular exercise will go a long way.

    Cardio vascular yoga

An ancient system of self development, Yoga is a powerful technique that provides a holistic approach to help combine the physical, mental, and spiritual forces of the being for a well developed and healthy body. When the sage Patanjali laid down the ‘sutras’ of yoga, they became guidelines on how to make the human body stress and disease free.

Today, most people do not pay much attention to their body unless it becomes diseased and starts to crave attention. We fail to recognize our sickness and think of remedying it only when serious symptoms start to ravage our body. A better way to do things, therefore, is to address problems before they become aggravated and move beyond our control. There have been many studies to prove that the mind has a vital role to play in maintaining good health. If we nourish the body but fail to nourish our mind, our health begins to deteriorate and we find ourselves unable to figure out what has happened to us.

There are many poses in Yoga that can improve the health of the heart by improving blood circulation. They also help in the removal of toxic waste from the body and regulate the hormones to keep us healthy. Pranayama, an important part of Yoga, if practiced regularly under the guidance of a trained practitioner, can help control breathing and is an effective cardiovascular yoga exercise. Breathing, in turn, can help regulate the flow of blood and relax a perturbed mind.

When done on a daily basis, meditation before sleeping is a great way to calm the senses and relax the mind. With the mind relaxed, the brain is more responsive and the body is at harmony with the surroundings. Though this mental and emotional balance is a little difficult to achieve, with practice, one can perfect it.

    Benefit of Sex

Posted by GUILBERT RAJ P 0 comments
The benefits of sexual activity on our physical and emotional health are many and science begins to specify in detail. The benefits of sexual activity, of course, occur in men as in women.

Benefits of sexual activity on our hormonal system:
The desire sexual releases hormones that increase sexual desire (estrogen and progesterone in women and testosterone in men), epinephrine increases heart rate and stimulates circulation by increasing oxygen delivery to cells, and pheromones, hormones of pleasure also have a vasodilator effect. As the excitement grows comes in endorphin, a hormone that creates a sense of pleasure and a state of euphoria to reach the maximum level in orgasm. In women during climax also releases oxytocin, a hormone responsible for the uterus and increase the intensity of orgasm. At this moment of maximum peak nerve cells in the brain causing electrical discharge their contents, once passed, the physical and mental relaxation.

Other benefits of sexual activity- increase defenses:
Maintaining a sexual activity with a certain frequency causes increased discharge of hormones that increase production of antibodies that fight viruses and bacteria, and those that serve as gatekeepers who control any unexpected reaction in the body. The men reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by ejaculating more than four days a week, and among women decreases the likelihood of breast cancer by increasing levels of oxytocin produced during orgasm.

    Sexual activity relieves pain:
According to studies on the benefits of sexual activity during orgasm women can tolerate the pain up to 100% more, i.e. one hand due to vaginal G-spot stimulation increases pain threshold, the release of endorphins disconnected for several minutes, the nerve endings responsible for pain and increased oxytocin, which also increase sexual desire, has the ability to relieve pain.

Benefits of sexual activity on an emotional level:
Sexual activity increases self-esteem, providing emotional stability, improved interpersonal relationships, we feel loved and attractive. Besides the relaxed state that we experience after orgasm produces a pleasant feeling of well being that makes us face our problems and concerns in a more optimistic, greatly reducing anxiety, stress and tension.

Sexual activity an antidote to depression:
Before and during sexual releases endorphins into the bloodstream, these hormones also regulate sleep; create a state of euphoria and a feeling of wellbeing. They also release oxytocin, a hormone that raises levels of serotonin and dopamine, chemicals related to mood and wellbeing.
